he ERuDeF Institute of Biodiversity and Non-profit Studies (EIBiNS), Reg. No 025/2012/AVC/MINEFOP/SG/DAG, has begun admitting students into its undergraduate and postgraduate degree and research programs for the 2014/2015 academic year.
According to the Director of EIBiNS, Dr. Patrick Sama-Lang, the admission, which started August 4, 2014, is conducted in core professional progams like NGO Studies and Fundraising, Applied Conservation, Forestry Sciences, Environmental Journalism, Agroforestry Management, GIS, Mountain Studies and Environmental Studies. Other core areas of specialization include Human Resource Management, Project Management, Applied Social Research Management, Financial Management and Audit of Organizations.
Admission into these programs ends on September 30, 2014.
The undergraduate training program admits students with at least two Advanced Level subjects or equivalent. The undergraduate program is a 4-year program, which leads to the award of a professional Bachelor Degree.
The first year of the program is certified with the award of a National Diploma, and the 3rd year with the award of a Higher National Diploma. The 4th year of the program (which leads to the award of a professional Bachelor Degree) is practically spent in the industry interspersed with seminars and concluded with a thesis defence.
Meanwhile, the graduate training admits students with at least a Bachelor Degree or equivalent from any discipline to undergo an intensive 18-month training program leading to the award of an Advanced Diploma. Nine months of this training program is dedicated to course work and the other nine to a practical internship with the Environment and Rural Development Foundation (ERuDeF) and other partner organizations.
EIBiNS supports postgraduate research mentorship in Biodiversity Management, Agroforestry Management, Forest Resources Management, Environmental Education, Environmental Journalism, NGO Studies, Fundraising, Climate Change and Carbon Forestry for students from collaborating universities. Such students pay mentorship fees at the rates enforced in the institution and are required to produce a thesis embodying the results of independent investigation under the mentorship of EIBiNS faculty and the guidance of an academic supervisor at the students’ own universities.
Research at EIBiNS involves original and critical enquiry that makes a significant contribution to existing knowledge of relevance both nationally and internationally.
Other training programs at EIBiNS include the Distance-Location Training Program offered in major towns to business executives and busy professionals who cannot leave their towns; Outreach Programs which entails receiving interns and students from other organizations and universities who want to acquire experience in the field of biodiversity and non-profit management, and the Week-End Based Training Program offered during the week-end for business executives and busy professionals, who cannot afford free time during the week.
There is also the Study Abroad & International Volunteering Programs where EIBiNS, in collaboration with international partners, receives foreign students from a week to several months to research and gain tropical rainforest conservation experience. It also links its students to other international study programs.
Interested candidates are called upon to deposit a filled application form to be obtained from the institute every working days between 9 am and 3 pm or at the ERuDeF head office on Malingo Street Buea, attaching a copy of their A-level certificate/slip or equivalent, degree and/or equivalent diploma, two reference letters from relevant professionals, a medical certificate of physical fitness, a letter of motivation for joining the program including career objectives, copy of transcript (as the case may be), and an application processing fee of 20.000 francs cfa.
