This activity was carried out within the framework of the annual summer holiday plan of action for LANEC.
It was aimed at educating children at an early age on the importance of protecting marine biodiversity.
The tree multiplication exercise complies with the partnership agreement with Earth Child Institute in the Global Action for Children, which encourages children to plant trees as planet initiatives.
The operation was equally characterized by sensitization talks on the importance of having a coastal marine eco-system free of plastic wastes; to ensure that the sea and other water bodies are healthy environments, while encouraging other environmental friendly practices.
The children picked, identified and recorded the different types of dangerous litter found in the Wamie beach in Kribi and planted a good number of ornamental plants. They also shot pictures of some touristic sites in the region. Thereafter, the kids will produce a documentary around the beach, while reviewing articles for the maiden children and youth magazine on the environment.
At the end of the guided tour, the children had a clear view of the peculiarities of environmental issues of the South Region. Experiences from international conferences were shared and amongst the many recommendations made, it was agreed that the different schools represented should organize conferences as well as reactivate the LANEC organ in the schools.
LANEC has been carrying out education and sensitization activities on various environmental issues for the past years. It successfully put across the message to some youths in July 2014 in a similar operation in the North West Region.
Participants included children of ages four to 24 years from NESS, PNEU, New Century, St. Bedes College Ashing Kom, and Our Lady of Lourdes College Mankon, St. Albert, PSS Bafut, Sacred Heart College and St. Ansela College Bali.
